On Monday, June 19, at 21:45 in Lucerne, the national teams of Switzerland and Romania will meet in a qualifying match for Euro-2024 in football. The coach of the hosts Murat Yakin has reason to be happy before the match with the tricolors of Edi Iordenescu: the game will be played behind closed doors.

The coach of the Swiss national team, Murat Yakin, is glad that the match with Romania will be held behind closed doors

“It’s great that the match will be played behind closed doors and soon we will be able to play in Bern as well, because from 2025 the Wankdorf stadium will have natural grass again,” Yakin told bluewin.ch, as quoted by Agerpres.

When asked whether the national team of Switzerland will always be better represented by the defense, for example, the famous “Swiss castle”, than by the attack, the technician after a long hesitation answered “no”.

Jakin does not see the fact that Switzerland has many valuable goalkeepers as a problem. “I’d rather it be that way than the other way around,” he said.

Jakin explained why his country is producing so many great goalkeepers: “This is mainly due to who is our goalkeeper coach, Patrick Foletti, as Fox is called, who is also responsible for the training of goalkeeper coaches in Switzerland.

He is a legend. He discovers talents, accompanies them from an early age and teaches not only technically, but also personally. He has an eye that I don’t have. It can tell if a player has the qualities to be a great goalkeeper.”

Current results of Romania in previous matches of Euro 2024

The beginning of the qualifying tournament for the tricolor is good, two wins from as many games. However, we must not forget that Romania has so far played with the weakest teams in the group – Andorra and Belarus.

The hard work for the national team, led by Edi Iordenescu, is just beginning, with a double in June against Kosovo and Switzerland (both away games).

Andorra – Romania 0-2

Romania – Belarus 2-1
