Maria Sakkari (WTA 8) had a poor performance in the second round of the WTA 250 tournament in Nottingham, losing to Alize Cornet (WTA 72) of France 6-1, 6-4.

The player from Greece, who was knocked out in the first round of Roland Garros by finalist Karolina Muchova, was competing in the tournament in Nottingham as preparation for Wimbledon.

Unfortunately for her, this time she also left the competition in the second round.

The first set was completely at the discretion of the Frenchwoman, who led 5-0 and finished strongly.

Down 2-0 again in the second set, the Roland Garros and US Open semi-finalist attempted a timid comeback, but Cornet stayed focused until the end and cruised to victory in less than an hour and a half of play.

In the quarterfinals, Alize Cornet will meet the winner of the matches between Elizabeth Mandlik (110 WTA) and Camila Giorgi (47 WTA).

The Rothesay Open in Nottingham is part of the WTA 250 and runs from June 12-18 on grass and offers a total prize pool of $259,303. The titular champion (since 2022) is Beatrice Haddad Maia. The tournament is preparatory to Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam tournament of the season (July 3-16).
