Nearly 43 years old, who will turn four in four days, the multiple Grand Slam champion fell in three sets, 3-6, 7-6(3), 6-2 to Switzerland’s Celine Naef (202 WTA).
Venus, ranked 696 in the world, played her last official match earlier this season at the WTA Auckland in early 2023 (she lost to Lin Zhu 6-3, 2-6, 5-7 in the second round) .
During her career, Venus triumphed seven times at Grand Slam tournaments: five times at Wimbledon (2000, 2001, 2005, 2007 and 2008) and twice at the US Open (2000, 2001). He played in three other major finals: 2003 and 2017 at the Australian Open and 2002 at Roland Garros.
The Libema Open is held from June 12 to 18 on grass, is a preparatory tournament for Wimbledon, is in the WTA 250 category, has a total prize money of $259,303, and the last champion is Kateryna Aleksandrova (in 2022).
