Kylian Mbappe has told PSG that he will not be activating his contract extension option for the 2024-25 season, meaning Parc des Princes will be forced to sell him this summer to avoid losing him on a free next winter.
PSG had to sell Kylian Mbappe this summer to avoid losing him for free
As reported by lequipe.fr, the striker sent a letter to the management of PSG in which he confirms that he did not activate the specified option in the contract.
In essence, this means the following: Mbappe’s deal with PSG will expire on the evening of June 30, 2024, and the French national team star will be able to sign a contract with anyone as a free agent as early as January 2024 (with the possibility of development for the corresponding formation from the 2024-2025 season).
Kilian did so under the conditions that he had the opportunity to activate the corresponding clause until July 31 of the current year.
In light of the new developments, PSG may seriously consider selling Kylian Mbappe this summer, precisely in order not to give him away for free.
Having moved from AS Monaco in 2017 for €180 million, the forward came very close to joining Real Madrid last summer. He was finally persuaded by an attractive salary to stay at PSG (€72 million per season gross).
According to Transfermarkt, 24-year-old Mbappe (1.78 meters) is valued at 180 million euros.
