Ruse (8th seed in qualifying) took one hour and 39 minutes to overtake her lower-ranked opponent (274th in the world).

Gabriela Ruse will fight for a place in the main draw of the competition with Sonai Kartal (Great Britain – ranked 277th in the WTA).

Kartal made one of the surprises of the day: she got past (6-2, 7-6(6)) Sofia Kenin (Grand Slam champion, 121st WTA and 2nd favorite in the qualification).

The Rothesay Open in Nottingham is part of the WTA 250 and runs from June 12 to 18 on grass and offers a total prize pool of $259,303. The titular champion (since 2022) is Beatrice Haddad Maia. The tournament is a preparation for Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam tournament of the season (July 3-16).
