The first major transfer of this summer in Romanian football was officially announced on Thursday. FC Voluntari goalkeeper Mihai Popa left the Super League for Serie A.

Mihai Popa, officially presented by Italians from Turin

Mihai Popa, one of the best goalkeepers of the first league, will play in Italy in Turin from July 1, according to the club’s official announcement.

At the age of 22, Popa trained at the Gheorghe Hagi Academy and also played for Astra Giurgiu and Rapid Bucharest before moving to FC Voluntari.

He has played in 77 games for Ilfoveni over the last two seasons.

Mihai Popa also made eight U21 caps and one U23 cap and was part of Romania’s 2020 Tokyo Olympics squad.

The goalkeeper will have to wait until he gets to know his new colleagues, called up by coach Emil Sandoy for the European Under-21 Championship.

According to Transfermarkt, Mihai Popa is valued at €1 million.
