Two-time world and European champion in the distances of 100 and 200 meters freestyle, David Popovici, made a great start to the first day of the Romanian Cup, which is hosted by the National Sports Swimming Complex in Otopeni.
The athlete registered with CS Dinamo Bucharest took first place in the 100-meter butterfly, finishing in 52.45 seconds.
The podium was completed by Daniel Christian Martin (CSM Bacău, 53.59 seconds) and Dragos Gile (CS Dinamo Bucharest, 54.56 seconds).
The Romanian Cup is a qualifying criterion for the World Swimming Championships in Fukuoka, which will be held on July 14-30.
After this competition, David will go to Italy, where he will take part in the Settecolli Trophy tournament at the Italian Forum on June 23-25.
