Istvan Kovac was criticized for his performance in the match between CFR Cluj and Craiova 1948, but it is possible that on Friday the referee from Kareija will receive news about his career: he could officiate in the Champions League final.
Istvan Kovac can replace Szymon Marciniak in the final between Manchester City and Inter
Poland’s Szymon Marciniak was initially delegated by UEFA to referee the match between Manchester City and Inter, but he took part in a far-right demonstration and risks being replaced at the European forum.
Journalists Onet.pl and La Repubblica reported that Marciniak was present on May 29 at a demonstration on Everest organized by Slawomir Mentzen, the leader of the far-right Confederation party, known for its racist, homophobic, anti-Semitic and xenophobic stance.
The news has reached the ears of UEFA, and the forum can replace Marciniak in the match, which will take place on June 10 in Istanbul. The decision will be made on Friday at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon.
“UEFA has taken note of the accusations against Szymon Marciniak and will immediately provide an explanation. UEFA and the entire football world strongly condemn the ideas promoted by this group and take these allegations seriously.” sent by the European Forum.
Usually, if something happens and Marciniak is no longer able to perform his duties, his place will be taken by the fourth referee, i.e. István Kovacs.
“As an international referee for many years, I have always prioritized fair play and respect for other people. And I want to pass on these values. I have always been against racism, anti-Semitism and intolerance, which I have shown during matches as a referee. I will always say, “Stop the hate” – Shimon Marcyniakquoted by Onet.pl.
