​Anette Kontaveit, the former owner of the second place in the WTA hierarchy, was eliminated in the first round of Roland Garros, the second Grand Slam tournament of the year.

Annette Kontaveit defeated by Bernarda Pera at Roland Garros

Having reached the 78th place in the world ranking, Kontaveit lost in two sets to the American Bernardi Pera (36 WTA), the score was 7-6(6), 6-2.

The match on court 12 lasted one hour and 26 minutes.

  • After this defeat, Annette will leave the WTA top 100 (she is ranked 103 in the WTA Live ranking).
  • In the second round, Pera will beat Donna Vekic (22nd seed), after the Croatian outlasted Ukraine’s Diana Yastremska (144 WTA, came from qualification), 6-2, 7-5.

The Roland Garros tournament takes place from May 28 to June 11, has a total prize pool of 49.6 million euros, and is the 127th tournament. Iga Sviatek and Rafael Nadal (14-time winner in Paris) became the champions of the title.
