Marta Kostyuk says fans should be “ashamed” for booing her

Spectators present at the match, which was lost to Aryna Sabalenko, criticized Marta Kostiuk, and the athlete from Ukraine reacted to the booing.

The match had a special emotional charge, in the context of the war in Ukraine, and Marta Kostiuk addressed the fans in the Paris arena.

“I did not expect this. I have no reaction, but I think they should be ashamed! I want to see how these people will react in 10 years when the war is over. I think that way they will also realize what they have done.” – he announced this at a press conference.

Aryna Sabalenko thought that she was being booed, not Marta Kostiuk

Despite the fact that Arina Sabalenko passed the next round of Roland Garros without emotions, she was overwhelmed by the negative energy of Marta Kostiuk’s gesture.

For a few moments, the athlete from Belarus thought that the fans present were booing her, after which she had a short dialogue with the chief judge.

There was a moment of confusion, which was finally decided when Marta Kostiuk left the field.

“I couldn’t understand what was happening. We all know that Ukrainian girls do not want to shake hands with us, so this is not a surprise for us, but today’s audience was probably surprised. They saw it as disrespecting me as a player, so they booed my opponent.

But at first I thought they were booing me. I was a little confused and asked myself, ok, what should I do? I talked to my team to make sure I did everything right. Then I somehow understood what the matter was, and thanked the audience, as if regretting what I had done in the first place.

I don’t think she deserves to leave the field like that. As for the war… you already know my opinion. No one in this world supports war. No one. If we could stop it, we would, but there is nothing we can do.” – said Aryna Sabalenko at the press conference.
