Xavi says the Spanish FA should not have overturned Vinicius’ red card

Barcelona, already champions, suffered their second straight defeat in La Liga: 1-3 against Real Valladolid. At the end of the game, Xavi was asked his opinion on the decision made by the Federation.

“Acts of racism and insults must be punished. But the action on the field is another matter. It was clearly a tackle and I’m surprised Vinicius’ red card was overturned. One has nothing to do with the other” – Xaviquoted by Marca.

After the match “Valencia” – “Real” (1:0), the referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetchea stated in the referee’s report that Vinicius “struck the opponent in the face with his hand at the moment of the interruption of the game”.

The competition committee explained why the Brazilian’s card was canceled: “The referee’s decision was influenced by the fact that he missed certain elements at this stage, which affected his assessment. The referee did not see certain phases and therefore took the wrong decision, he could not fully assess the situation.”

Vinicius also avoided suspension after the card was canceled and will be available to play against Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday (La Liga Round 36).
