Qualification in the “16” of the Rome Masters tournament secured Stefanos Tsitsipas, having won their 3rd round match against Italian Lorenzo Sonego which started yesterday (15/5) but was stopped due to rain. The Greek tennis player, who managed to win the first set yesterday, took the second set in a tie-break today and won 6-3, 7-6(3).
Tsitsipas had the ability to clean up the second set and match with relative ease, but while comfortably holding the serve, he lost the opportunity to break in three different sets. Sonego recovered and went to two sets, with the scores 5-4 and 6-5, but in both cases “Stef” wiped them out with the winners, and finally the set was brought to a tie-break. There, Tsitsipas scored the first two points, Sonego the next three, and then the Greek champion with five consecutive points reached 7-3 and qualified.
Stefanos Tsitsipas’ next opponent will be the winner of the match between Italian Lorenzo Muzzetti and American Francis Tiafoe.
