Song Joong-ho, arrested in China: the South Korean is suspected of corruption

The information came from a Korean diplomat who prefers to remain anonymous.

The 31-year-old midfielder, who plays for Chinese club Shandong Taishan, was detained and jailed in northeast China’s Liaoning province on Friday for alleged involvement in a corruption case, the official said.

Since 2021, the player has been playing for the Chinese First League club “Shandong Taishan”, located in Shandong Province, which is separated by the Yellow Sea from Liaoning Province.

South Korea’s consul in China, who is based in Shenyang, asked Song Joong-ho to contact him as soon as possible. Shandong Taishan Club has yet to respond.
