Daria Kasatkina and life in the WTA: “It’s a never-ending story”

Daria compared the life of a tennis player to a “hamster in a wheel”. The WTA calendar starts in January and usually ends at the end of October. In the off-season, players spend a lot of time training and sometimes participate in exhibition tournaments.

The athlete from Russia showed not the best results in 2023 (10 wins and 11 losses) and changed her coach (refused to work with Carlos Martinez and now works with Flavio Cipolla).

“It is difficult because we are like a hamster in a wheel, non-stop, we have few breaks, it is a never-ending story; and in the end it’s the same, every year more or less the same story, every week.

I remember how in the first year I was in love with everything, I was very worried about everything. I could spend 24 hours at the tennis club and be so happy. Of course, that changes when you spend a few years doing the same thing, seeing the same people, the same rooms, the same everything. You’re obviously getting a little tired.

It is very difficult to find the answers and the way on your own, so sometimes it is good to seek help from someone else; a professional who can show you the way to find other things to enjoy.

Personally, I find it difficult to travel every week, I’m not a fan of it. If I didn’t have to, I wouldn’t travel. I am forced to do this because of my career, and it is difficult for me. That’s why I have to work on it” – Daria Kasatkinaquoted by UbiTennis.

Kasatkina was defeated by Veronika Kudermetova in the round of 16 of the WTA 1000 tournament in Madrid with a score of 7-5, 1-6, 7-6(2).
