The surprise of the day at the Caja Magica tournament came from Petra Martic (WTA 33rd, ranked 27th).
The Croatian beat Krejcikova (11th seed) in straight sets 6-3, 7-6(1). The match lasted one hour and 56 minutes.
Martic missed two match points at 5-4 in the second set, saved four at 5-6 and eventually won in a tiebreak.
Petra, who achieved her best result at a major tournament also on clay at Roland Garros (quarters in 2019), will face the winner of the match between Iga Sviatek (world number one) and Kateryna Alexandrova (16th seed) in the quarters.
