Another game, another goal from Erling Haaland, and the Manchester City forward has surprised even his coach with his incredible statistics this season.
Haaland can break England’s nearly 100-year-old scoring record
Erling Haaland converted a penalty in the 3rd minute in the victory of “City” over “Fulham” (2:1). This result returned Pep Guardiola’s team to the top of the Premier League and moved closer to a fifth title in six seasons, writes the BBC.
It was the 50th goal of the season in all competitions for the 22-year-old, who joined from Borussia Dortmund last summer, overtaking Clive Allen’s 49 goals for Tottenham in 1986-87.
In 44 games, the Norwegian scored 34 goals in the Premier League, 12 in the Champions League, three in the FA Cup and one in the Carabao Cup.
However, the next goal will break the record of Andy Cole and Alan Shearer.
Both Cole (with Newcastle in 1993–94) and Shearer (with Blackburn in 1994–95) each scored 34 goals in a Premier League season in 42 outings, four more than now.
Erling Haaland could play a maximum of 10 games this season, six in the Premier League, one in the FA Cup and a maximum of three in the Champions League if Manchester City reach the final.
England’s top scorer in one season, Dixie Dean, scored 63 goals for Everton in 1927-28.
