After a game that lasted an hour and 32 minutes, the two won after a super tie-break pair of Storm Hunter (Australia) / Elise Mertens (Belgium) with a score of 6-4, 2-6, 10-8.

In the quarterfinals, the couple Niculescu / Ninomiya will play against Gabriela Ruse / Marta Kostyuk (Ukraine) for a place in the semifinals of the competition.

The WTA Mutua Madrid Open takes place from April 25 to May 7 on clay at the Caja Magica complex. It is part of the WTA 1000 category and has a total prize pool of $7,652,174. Gabriela Dabrovsky (Canada) and Juliana Olmos (Mexico) became the doubles champions.
