The #7 seed at Caja Magica, an athlete from Kazakhstan, lost in three sets to Russian Anna Kalinska (62 WTA) with a score of 7-5, 4-6, 6-2.

The game at the Arena Aranta Sanchez lasted two hours and 14 minutes.

In the next round, Kalinska will meet the winner of the match between Petra Martic (33 WTA, favorite 27) and Laura Siegemund (128 WTA).

The WTA Mutua Madrid Open takes place from April 25 to May 7 on clay at the Caja Magica complex. It is in the WTA 1000 category, has a total prize money of US$7,652,174, and the title holder is Ons Jabert. Simona Halep won in 2016 and 2017.
