Russian Mirra Andreeva made another surprise at the tournament in Madrid, the 15-year-old athlete managed to qualify for the third round of the Caja Magica, beating Beatrice Haddad Maya, the 13th favorite of the competition.

Having received a wild card, Andreeva bypassed Leila Fernandez (Grand Slam finalist at the US Open 2021) in the first round.
Andreeva will fight for a place in the 1/8 finals with the winner of the match between Marketa Vondrousova (80 WTA) and Magda Lynette (19 WTA and 17th favorite).

The WTA Mutua Madrid Open takes place from April 25 to May 7 on clay in the Caja Magica complex. It is in the WTA 1000 category, has a total prize money of US$7,652,174, and the title holder is Ons Jabert. Simona Halep won in 2016 and 2017.
