​Russian Mirra Andreeva made another surprise at the tournament in Madrid, the 15-year-old athlete managed to qualify for the third round of the Caja Magica, beating Beatrice Haddad Maya, the 13th favorite of the competition.

Andreeva won in straight sets 7-6(6), 6-3 against one of the best players in the WTA tournament. The game lasted two hours and 12 minutes.

Having received a wild card, Andreeva bypassed Leila Fernandez (Grand Slam finalist at the US Open 2021) in the first round.

Andreeva will fight for a place in the 1/8 finals with the winner of the match between Marketa Vondrousova (80 WTA) and Magda Lynette (19 WTA and 17th favorite).

The player from Russia has only one loss in 2023: (2)6-7, 6-4, 7-5 against Alina Korneeva (Australian Open junior final).

The WTA Mutua Madrid Open takes place from April 25 to May 7 on clay in the Caja Magica complex. It is in the WTA 1000 category, has a total prize money of US$7,652,174, and the title holder is Ons Jabert. Simona Halep won in 2016 and 2017.
