
Mo Farah announced that he would complete it his track and field career participation in the Great North Run, in September next year.
The four-time Olympic champion finished ninth in his last London marathon, finishing the 42.195km in two hours, ten minutes and 28 seconds, nine minutes ahead of Kenyan winner Kelvin Kiptum.
The 40-year-old British runner will compete in the 10K Great Manchester Run on 21 May ahead of the Great North Run Half Marathon on 10 September.
“Part of me wanted to cry“, Farah told the BBC shortly after finishing the London Marathon, adding: “I will miss this feeling, I am emotionally charged today.
The Great Northern Run will be my last run and this will be my goodbye. My career has been amazing, my wife and kids have been with me on this journey and I want to give them time now as well as participate in grassroots sports and give back what I have received.”
It is noted that Farah won the Great North Run six times.
