The fourth seed in the tournament, Garcia controlled the first set and went into the decider, and the match appeared to be heading for an easy victory.

The next two sets belonged to Anastasia Potapova (24 WTA), who won them by the same score, 6-3, 6-3, ahead of the Frenchwoman, winner of the Tournament of Champions.

The game lasted two hours and eight minutes.

In the semifinals, Potapova will meet Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenko (2 WTA), who advanced to the quarterfinals against Paula Badosa, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.

The tournament in Stuttgart is part of the WTA 500 category, takes place on closed grounds, has a total prize money of $780,637, and the title champion is Iga Sviatek (she won the title in 2022).
