
Dauren Kurugliev gave Greece a second medal at the European Wrestling Championships held in Zagreb, Croatia. After the silver of Giorgos Kugiumtsidis, it was the turn of the gold of Kurugliev, who in today’s (19/4) final 86k. The freestyle was won by Miles Nazem Amin from San Marino with a score of 3:1.
Without losing a single technical point, the 31-year-old European champion confirmed his superiority in the Croatian arena, since none of the opponents could really threaten him.
In the final, he faced Miles Nazim Amin of San Marino, who took the lead after a reprimand received by the European champion. But then Kurugliev took matters into his own hands, leading 2:1 and emerging victorious 3:1.
Before the gold medal match, Kurugliev dominated by technical superiority (11-0) over Hungary’s Patrick Puespoecki and Latvia’s Aivar Samusonoks (10-0) and Azerbaijan’s Abubakr Abakarov 9-0 before also beating the Slovakian.
Hosonov in 5th place
In the “small” final of the weight category up to 125 kg freestyle, Azamat Khosonov met with Daniel Ligeti from Hungary. The 23-year-old Greek champion was losing 5-0 in the middle of the final, and then tried to come back, but could not finish in 5th place.
Meanwhile, Agoro Papavasileu’s progress stalled in the quarter-finals. The champion of Greece in the preliminary competitions in the weight category up to 76 kg beat Serva Nagy in the fall and reached the quarterfinals, where she lost to the Ukrainian Anastasia Osnyats.
