The referee of the Basketball Champions League issued a devastating punishment to KAE AEK for the incidents that took place at the Ano Liosia stadium in the match against Hapoel Jerusalem on 12 April.
KAE AEK as a punishment next season (2023-24) will play all home matches of the tournament without fans. In addition, the referee imposed a fine of 50,000 euros on the management of the “yellow-blacks”.
On the other hand, Hapoel Jerusalem was only fined 3,500 euros because the referee did not recognize that the Israeli team’s fans at the Union Stadium provoked the AEK fans with their actions.
AEK were repeat offenders as they had already been punished with three matches behind closed doors for incidents that took place in the first group stage match against Reggio Emilia.
It is not yet known whether AEK AEK will appeal the decision of the first instance to higher authorities.
Tomorrow, Wednesday (April 19, 19:00), Hapoel Jerusalem will host AEK in Israel, in the third and last quarter-final match between them, the winner of which will advance to the final four of the Basketball Champions League.
