Bookmakers will disappear from England shirts

Premier League clubs have agreed to ban gambling sponsors from their shirts, becoming the first in the top flight to do so, the Daily Mail reports.

Eight of the 20 clubs currently in the Premier League have such main sponsors, with a phase-out due to begin after the 2025-26 season.

The move was made to reduce the display of gambling advertising, although its presence will be allowed on shirt sleeves in the future.

“Premier League clubs have today agreed to ban gambling sponsorships on the front of their shirts. The announcement was made following extensive consultation involving the League, clubs and the Government’s Department of Culture and Sport.

To help clubs with this transition, the collective action will come into effect at the end of the 2025-2026 season,” the Premier League announced.

The bookmakers’ sponsorship of the eight clubs currently in England’s top flight brings in around £60m a year.

Until it enters into force, clubs will be able to receive sponsorship. In addition to the presence on the sleeves of the shirts, their logos will also be able to appear on the LED advertising in the stadiums.
