Adam Peaty will not compete in the 2023 World Swimming Championships

“Our priority is to give him our full support with a view to a full return to competition,” British Swimming told BBC Sport, without giving a date.

Last month, the 28-year-old swimmer announced that he had struggled with mental health in recent years.

“I’m tired, I’m not myself and I don’t like doing the sport I’ve been doing for over ten years.” – said Petey after withdrawal from the national championships.

Peaty still hopes to return to defend his 100m breaststroke and 4x100m medley relay titles won in Tokyo in 2021 at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He also became the Olympic champion in the 100m breaststroke at the Olympics in Rio-2016.

In May 2022, he suffered a broken leg in training, which has already ruled him out of the World Championships in Budapest in June 2022.

He was able to return in time to compete in the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in August. There, he suffered his first defeat in eight years in the 100m breaststroke, taking only fourth place, and two days later won the 50m breaststroke, writes News.ro.
