Matteo Berrettini (World No. 22) is one of the sexiest tennis players on the ATP tour, and the Italian recently opened up to the media about the downsides of being a celebrity.

While in Monte Carlo, where he is competing in the Masters of the Principality tournament (he will not play Francisco Cerundolo in the second round), Matteo also spoke to reporters about the less pleasant side of celebrity.

In an interview with Tennis Channel, Berrettini explained how his lifestyle changed after he became famous.

The Italian admitted that it is quite difficult for him to cope with the status that he has now, as Matteo mainly mentions the obligations that he has to fulfill when he is in public.

“Yes, everything is different, from when you go out to dinner to when you just walk around the city. But we have to get used to it.

I feel that sometimes it is not easy for me to rest. It’s like always having to hide from signing things or taking pictures.” – Matteo Berrettini.

However, the Italian admits that without the love of the fans, it would be difficult for him to find the strength to start the difficult training anew every day.

“In the end, I’m happy because they show me a lot of support, a lot of love, and that gives me a lot of energy,” the Italian concluded.

Berrettini’s highest world ranking was No. 6 at the start of 2022.

Career highlights came at Wimbledon 2021 (played in the final, losing to Novak Djokovic) and Australian Open 2022 (lost to Rafael Nadal in the semifinals).

During his career, he had 150 wins and 81 losses, and received $10,994,043 in tennis prize money alone.

In September 2022, Matteo announced that he had split from WTA player Aila Tomljanovic after two years of dating. Now the Italian is together with TV presenter Melissa Satta.
