Roma, Lazio and Salernitana under investigation for tax fraud

Earlier this year, Italy’s Federal Court of Appeal fined Juventus 15 league points, and the scandal doesn’t end there.

With 3 teams making it to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, two to the quarter-finals of the Europa League and one to the quarter-finals of the Conference League, Italian football is having a dream season.

However, a new scandal is falling on Italian football.

Sky Sport Italia journalists write that the financial guard from Rome arrived on Wednesday at the headquarters of “Roma”, “Lazio” and “Salernitana”, whose clubs are suspected of tax fraud.

In particular, the agents seized computers, documents, mobile phones and other things that could help them in this investigation, which concerns the transactions of buying and selling players in the period 2017-2021.

In total, Sky Sport Italia says around 18 transfers and loans that led to fictitious capital gains will be investigated.

“SS Lazio is a crystal house where all documents are in their place and always within reach of all authorities. In our work, we have always followed the perspective of loyal and full cooperation, so any requested documentation was provided by us immediately.

However, we have a deep respect for fairness and therefore trust that any misunderstandings or doubts about the contested assumptions will be quickly cleared up.” – said in the Lazio press release.

“AS Roma acknowledges the opening of an investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of Rome against the club, as well as some of its current and previous managers.

The club is cooperating with the relevant authorities and hopes that this matter will be resolved as soon as possible, given that it has always operated in full compliance with the current rules.” – also wrote from AS Roma.

Three teams risk both dismissal and exclusion from European competitions.
