Former world number one Garbiñe Muguruza announced on Monday that she will be taking a break from the WTA, skipping this summer’s clay and grass-court majors.

Garbinier Muguruza will not participate in Roland Garros and Wimbledon

Ranked 132nd in the WTA rankings, the former Roland Garros and Wimbledon winner announced to her followers on social media that she will also be extending her break this summer.

“Spending time with family and friends has been really good for them, so I’m going to continue it until the summer, so I’ll miss the clay and grass season,” Muguruza announced.

The Spanish athlete will miss, in particular, the Wimbledon and Roland Garros tournaments.

In 2023, the two-time winner of the Grand Slam tournaments could not defeat anyone, her performances at the tournament ended in unison in the first round.

The last tournament Muguruza won came at the end of the 2021 season, when the Iberian surprised and won the Champions Tour for the first time in Guadalajara.

From that moment, the player’s career went down irreversibly, and now Muguruza is closer to leaving the TOP-100 WTA than to the first places.
