Daniil Medvedev: “I win on hard and when I don’t play the best tennis”

Despite the fact that in Indian Wells he complained about the slowness of the court, Daniil realizes that the hard work for him will begin only now: clay tournaments are ahead.

“I like it hard. If I had to choose, I would choose only hardcores. While I know I can play pretty well on grass and clay, I feel most mobile on hard. I can’t play my best tennis but still win matches. That’s a big difference” – Daniil Medvedev for the Tennis channel.

Will the slag stop Danylo Medvedev?

After losing to Medvedev in the Miami Open final, Yannick Sinner said that perhaps European clay could help slow down Medvedev, who has won titles in Doha, Rotterdam, Dubai and Miami in 2023 (Daniel has 29 wins and just 3 losses).

“It’s clay season so we’ll see how you do there, but I wish you all the best.” Sinner joked during the award ceremony.

Clay may not be the favorite of the Russian, but he has achieved notable results on this surface over time: the semifinals of Monte Carlo 2019 and the quarterfinals of Roland Garros 2021.

“I know I can play well on clay. I beat Novak (Djokovic) once on clay. I actually beat (Stephanos) Tsitsipas and Novak once in the same tournament, it’s cool. This is a pretty good performance on the ground.

The sooner you lose in Miami, the more you can practice on clay. Therefore, the first tournament will be difficult. I’m already mentally preparing not to go crazy if I play really badly in Monte Carlo.

But maybe that won’t happen. The trust is still there. I’ll try to do my best and see how it goes” – Daniil Medvedev.
