Sepsi and FCSB conclude the second stage of the playoffs in a match that could have a decisive impact on the achievement of the goal for each of the two teams.

Sepsi are 6th in the table, last on 21 points, seven points off 5th, and come off the back of a 1-2 loss in their opening game, 1-2 away to Farul, so only a win can keep them in contention for a place in Conference leagues.

In 2023, the team coached by Cristiano Bergodi only managed two wins in ten league matches, both at home, 2-1 against Hermannstadt and 4-0 against FC Craiova, but enough to make it, even if in extremis, a place in the playoffs.

In 15 games played at home this season, Sepsi has won six, drawn four and lost five, while Mario Rondon is the team’s top scorer with nine successes in the Super League.

FCSB have 30 points and are six points adrift of first place, also needing a win to stay in the title race despite missing out on their play-off debut, 1-1 at home to Craiova University.

Elias Charalambous, a 42-year-old Cypriot who also played for FC Vasloui and coached Etnikos Ahna (2021-2022) and Doxa Katokopias (2022-2023), is the new official coach of FCSB, but the team’s de facto coach is Mihai Pintilii. who will return to the technical bench after four stages of disqualification.

FCSB have registered nine wins, one draw and five defeats in their away games this season, with Andrea Compagno as the team’s and league’s top scorer with 16 goals (tied with Rapid’s Marko Dugandzic).

In eight straight games played at the Sepsi ground, the Covasnians have only won once against FCSB, 4-2 on 5 December 2018, while the red and blues have just two clean sheets in the current Super League season.

FCSB won each of the two regular season matches against Sepsi: 1-0 at St. Hergé on October 24, 2022 (Companion 51p) and 1-0 in Capital on March 12, 2023 (Oct. Popescu 21).
