A recent run of bad results (four points in the last five stages of La Liga) has proved fatal for Jorge Sampaoli, and Sevilla announced the sacking of the Argentinian coach on Tuesday.
Sevilla fired coach Jorge Sampaoli
Sampaoli replaced Julen Lopetegui at the start of October but leaves the team in 14th place in La Liga, just two points behind 18th-placed Valencia (the first to be relegated).
Sevilla FC have terminated the contract with their coach Jorge Sampaoli after the 0:2 defeat by Getafe, which put the team on the brink of relegation.
“The fact that the team has not been able to get out of the bottom of the league table since he took over as coach, as well as the image offered in recent games, have forced the club to take this decision,” FC Sevilla said in a press release.
13 wins, 6 draws and 12 losses were won by Jorge Sampaoli on the technical bench of Sevilla.
The team is doing better in the Europa League (a competition it has won six times, a record) and will play in the quarter-finals against Manchester United.
The Andalusian club hope that the new coach will cause a “reaction in the last 12 stages” of LaLiga.
According to AS, the group is already negotiating with the Basque coach Jose Luis Mendilibarwho previously coached Eibar (2015-2021) and Deportivo Alaves (2022).
Also this week, Elche (last in the ranking) fired coach Pablo Machin.
