Qualification for the final tournament, the big dream of Edi Iordenescu

The Romanian national team will play two games in the preliminary group for Euro 2024 in March and coach Edi Iordenescu addressed the fans and players with a message sent via the website of the Romanian Football Federation.

We will remind that on March 25, Romania will play Andorra, and on March 28, the tricolor will play against the Belarus national team.

“On the eve of the EURO 2024 qualifying matches, I am thinking about our players and fans. To the players I have watched for a long time at club level, with whom I still work with the national team, and to those who, through their evolution and development, show that they have the potential to help Romania.

The first convocations of this campaign are approaching, an opportune moment to send a firm public message to footballers and fans that it is time to reward them with a final tournament.

Of course, I would like there to be no absences due to medical reasons, but unfortunately, there are football players who are injured, or are in the recovery period, or have not yet reached their maximum physical capabilities. But this is the reality that the breeder has to face.

I am convinced that Romania will qualify for the EURO only because of a jump at the individual and group level and because of full concentration on this goal. Therefore, only those who show day by day that they want to get better will play.

And only those who are connected by heart, mind, talent and work for the national team.

Although I always believe in our footballers and their potential, we currently have few in the strong leagues or continental competitions, so the success of Romania should be the main goal.

And as it becomes increasingly difficult for players from the country to play football abroad, a national team course can also give anyone a career jump.

The evaluation is complete, the conclusions are clear: only those who deserve to wear the Romania shirt can wear it, and it is given 100 percent. In my opinion, there is no 99.9%.

A short campaign ahead, there will be zero compromises and half-measures! We gave chances, but now there is only one chance: qualification!

We have outlined the core of the players, we are going to follow up on the result. Athletic form is an important criterion in selection, but it also means consistency and a winning mentality transposed on the pitch.

We will not qualify with players of instant flashes, but with footballers who will pass the test of dedication. Regarding football, the national team and fans. At the same time, the recent history of the tricolor is important in the choice.

It’s true that I won’t close the national team door to anyone, but it’s also true that I’ve been disappointed with the way some have treated both the national team and my own talent in recent years. There is always a second chance, but Romania’s qualification for the EUROs goes beyond any name or person.

Therefore, I too will ignore any attacks or pressure during the selection campaign.

There are many young and very young players that we believe in and follow. This month, some of them will remain in the U21, U20 and U19 national teams with matches in March, or in the extended circle of the senior national team.

Responsibly maintain your form and mentality, because many have convinced me that they can be reliable options.

I thank the Romanians in advance who will support us in the stadiums, home and away, and in front of the TVs everywhere. We start this journey with confidence and with only one thought: to qualify for the EURO.

For this, each of us will make any sacrifices in training and on the field, only in this way we will be happy together!” – said Edi Iordanescu.
