Gael Monfils will end his career if he gets injured again

Former world No. 6 (November 2016), Monfils has not played on the ATP circuit since August 2022. A problem with his right heel forced the Frenchman to withdraw from Roland Garros, and he was injured again after his return (at the Montreal Masters). .

Gael, ranked 210th in the world, played in Indian Wells under the protected ranking rule, but suffered a first-round loss to Australia’s Jordan Thompson (87 ATP). After this defeat, Gael Monfils said that he will fit into the racket if he gets injured again.

“I came back because I love to play tennis. But I must understand that the end is near. I have to set my goals high enough to really motivate myself to play. The goal is to get to the 2024 Olympics.

I am almost 37 years old, I have a child. It’s harder. And above all, I am afraid of something. If I get injured again, it’s over. I know I’m hanging in the balance. I’m fine, I’m glad to be back, but I have to take care of myself” – Gael Monfils for L’Equipe.

Gael Monfils and Elina Svitolina became parents in October, and the daughter of the two players is named Sky.
