The Romanian polo team qualified for the continental tournament, beating Malta 13:6 in the last match of the European qualifying tournament (Division 2) as part of the selection for the World Cup.
At the pre-qualification tournament in Otopeni, the tricolors scored the following results: 16-2 against Great Britain, 7-9 against Germany, 15-5 against Ukraine and 13-6 against Malta.
As a result, Romania finishes in 2nd place with 9 points and qualifies for the tournament in Berlin. The last match of the day is between Germany, which has already passed the qualification, and the last ranked Great Britain.
According to LEN – European Aquatics, the first two places at the Otopeni tournament will qualify for the European tournament in Berlin from May. Germany automatically qualifies as hosts. Other qualifiers will come from similar tournaments in Africa, the Americas and Asia and Oceania.
Only after the Berlin tournament (May 1-7) will the two best teams advance to the final tournament of the World Championship, the former World Polo League. The final tournament will be held in Los Angeles from June 30 to July 2, while the other six teams will come from the first division, which hosts qualifying games on Wednesday, in Zagreb and Podgorica.
The World Cup is important because the finalists qualify for the 2024 World Cup (Doha), from which four teams advance to the Olympic Games in Paris, writes News.ro.
