Former Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone spoke about Mick Schumacher, who before the first race of the 2023 season is only a reserve pilot for Mercedes.
Mick Schumacher could find his way into Formula 1
Mick Schumacher, son of seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, has not been retained by the Haas team for the new competitive season after spending two years with the team, reports Agerpres.
He is now the back-up driver for Lewis Hamilton and George Russell at Mercedes, and Ecclestone says it is his best situation to continue competing in F1.
“We’ll see what happens. Maybe he will find his way. I don’t think he needs to study much. He just needs to feel like he’s needed in the team, live up to expectations and feel comfortable,” Ecclestone said.
Only four teams retain the same pair of drivers for the 2023 season of the Formula One World Championship, which debuts on Sunday in Bahrain and which will line up three debutants as well as a driver returning to the Grand Circus.
If the top teams Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes, as well as Alfa Romeo left their pilots, the Dutchman Nick de Vries, the American Logan Sargeant and the Australian Oscar Piastri are news among the AlphaTauri, Williams and McLaren teams. German Nico Hulkenberg returns to Formula 1 at Haas.
This season, it is also worth noting two changes: the Frenchman Pierre Gasly moved to Alpine instead of the Spaniard Fernando Alonso, who went to Aston Martin.
