The Romanian Cycling Federation was left without a leader

In its final decision of February 23, the Bucharest Court of Appeal partially upheld the appeal and annulled the decision of the extraordinary general meeting of the Romanian Cycling Federation of June 19, 2021.

General Secretary Mihai Rusu confirmed that “at the moment, the federation has no leadership.”

“We are working on a legal decision regarding the convening of the General Election Meeting. I cannot say more at the moment because I have not yet received the reason for the decision. Only I and the chief accountant remained from the board of directors.

We now expect the Ministry of Sports to stop funding us and we will have no funding until the next General Assembly. We expect it, but nothing concrete. According to the methodology, if you do not have an approval issued by the ministry after the electoral assembly, you are not eligible for funding. We are currently not eligible. We will have to take a break for a month or two, depending on the circumstances” – Mihai Rusuin an interview for Agerpres.

Rusu added that the General Election Assembly can be convened in May as soon as possible: “From my point of view, the election assembly can be held at the beginning of May. According to the charter, the General Meeting is convened in a month, then until we find a legal way, there is a period between the convocation and the meeting.”

Athletes and national teams will no longer be able to participate in competitions sponsored by the Romanian Cycling Federation, but they will be able to participate in competitions organized by clubs or private individuals.

At the general assembly in June 2021, Alex Chokan was elected president, Carmen Babayce and Stefan Leibner were elected vice-presidents, and Marjana Makovey, Bohdan Branza and Szabolch Sebestyen became members of the board of directors.

Former cyclist Alexandru Ciocan (44) was initially elected President of the Romanian Cycling Federation on March 13, 2021, winning the election at the FRC General Assembly held at the Select Hotel in Sibiu. Then 47 of the 74 affiliated members present at the General Assembly voted for him for a 4-year term.

On March 19 of the same year, Minister of Youth and Sports Eduard Novak announced that the institution headed by him suspended the decision of the General Electoral Assembly of the Cycling Federation of Romania, whose president was elected Alexandru Chocan as part of the Federation. The convening of the General Assembly has not been confirmed by the court.
