Quite naturally, Argentina’s triumph at the very recent World Cup in Qatar eclipsed everything, and of course the team’s superstar Lionel Messi was named Footballer of the Year at the 2022 FIFA World Cup Awards. The coach was also awarded, as were the Argentine fans. .

Messi received his award from FIFA President Gianni Infantino at a ceremony in Paris on Monday, ending a memorable year in which he accomplished his greatest feat: leading his country to the World Cup.

Messi, who won this award for the second time in his career, after 2019 won the corresponding vote against his Paris Saint-Germain teammate Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema (Real Madrid).

The credit for this triumph also belongs to his namesake Lionel Scaloni, who was awarded the best coach of the year by Fabio Capello, leaving Carlo Ancelotti (Real Madrid) and Pep Guardiola (Manchester City) behind.
