
A day after parting with coach Mike Day, American Mikaela Shiffrin won the gold medal in the giant slalom at the World Ski Championships in Meribel-Courchevel (France).

With a time of 2:07’13”, Shiffrin won her 13th World Championship medal, 7 of which were gold.
The podium was completed by Italian Federica Brignone (silver, +12″) and Norwegian Ragnhild Mowinkel (bronze, +22″).
Romania was represented by three athletes: Maria Ioana Constantin (44th place, +19’74”), Diana Andrea Rentea (47th place, +22’71”) and Ioana Corlaceanu (50th place, +26’79).

- At the age of 27, Shiffrin has won gold in four different disciplines: special slalom (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019), super giant slalom (2019), combined (2021) and giant slalom (2023), AP reports.
- On the first step in the hierarchy of the most successful skiers is the German Christl Kranz (15 medals, including 12 gold, in the 1930s). With 13 medals, Shiffrin tied with Anya Persson, Toni Seiler, Marcel Hirscher and Mariel Heutschel.
