Badosa, who is ranked 20th in the WTA rankings, lost in two hours and six minutes to Brazil’s Beatrice Haddad Maia (WTA No. 12), 7-6, 6-3.
In the first set, which was decided on a tie-break, the Spaniard dropped four serves and missed a set point before Haddad Maia won 8-6.
In the next round, Beatriz Haddad Maia will meet the winner Rebecca Marino and the 6th favorite of the tournament, Russian Daria Kasatkina (8 WTA).
The Qatar TotalEnergies Open (from Doha) runs from February 13 to 18 on hard, is part of the WTA 500 category, has a total prize pool of $780,637, and the title is won by Iga Sviatek (title won in 2022).
