UEFA has announced the name of the referee who will officiate from the center the match between “Lazio” and “CFR Cluj” from the first match of the playoffs of the eighth Conference League.

Craig Pawson will referee the match between Lazio and CF Cluj

The game at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome will be refereed by Englishman Craig Pawson. The match will take place on Thursday, from 22:00 and will be broadcast in the format LiveTEXT on HotNews.ro.

Lee Betts and Ian Hussin have been delegated as assistant referees, while Robert Jones will be the fourth official.

Australia’s Jarred Gavan Gillett and England’s Constantin Hatsidakis will be in the VAR room. Dane Jorn West Larsen has been appointed as an observer from the referees, and Serbian Jovan Shurbatovych will be a UEFA delegate.

  • Pawson has only refereed the Romanian side once, at ASA Târgu Mureş on 6 August 2015, in a 2–1 (1–0) win at French side AS Saint-Etienne, in the second leg of the third round of the previous round of the Europa League. ASA was relegated after losing the first game with a score of 0-3, writes Agerpres.
  • Pawson was also an additional assistant referee on December 11, 2014 in a match lost by Steaua Bucharest against Dynamo Kyiv with a score of 0:2 at the National Arena in the capital in Group J of the Europa League.
  • According to SportsMole, over the past year Pawson has refereed 41 matches (24 in the Premier League, 3 each in the Europa League and the Conference League and one in the Champions League), received 92 yellow cards and one red.
