He won the 10th Australian Open of his career, which helped him tie Rafael Nadal for the most Grand Slam titles won (22). Novak Djokovic is the man of the moment in world tennis and Marian Wajda (his former coach) explains why Nole is so strong.

Player Djokovic, a combination of Federer and Nadal, says Marian Vajda

In an interview with Argentine journalists, Ole Vaida (57 years old) talked about his former student.

Among other things, Nole’s former coach says that rivalries with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have effectively nurtured the Serb, forcing him to improve in all aspects of his game.

Vajda plastically characterizes Novak, saying that he is a combination of Federer and Nadal, and hence the difficulty of winning on any surface.

Marian Wajda talks about the “inheritance” received from Roger: the complete game, as well as the perseverance “stolen” from Rafa.

“Everyone has their own surface: Rafa likes clay, Roger likes fast serves and Nole likes grass. It’s about different styles and strategies for approaching tournaments. But the goals are the same – to be better.

They always wanted more and more and went further (not in improving the game).

For 15-20 years, they were and remain the best. Mentality is key here and I think the rivalry helped them: it was the fuel they used to push forward.

I talked about this with Toni Nadal several times, there are people who have something special: they are very strong mentally.

Everyone has their own character, but Novak is a mixture of the other two. He has Roger’s complete game and Nadal’s tenacity, and that combination is lethal.” – Maryan Vaida for Ole, quoted by welovetennis.fr.

Marian Vajda and Novak Djokovic collaborated twice: 2006-2017 and 2018-2022.

During this period, Nole won the Australian Open 9 times, Roland Garros twice, Wimbledon 6 times, the US Open 3 times, the Tournament of Champions 5 times and 37 Masters titles.
