CFR Cluj have lost two games in a row in the Super League and coach Dan Petrescu was furious with his players and believes the performance they put in gives them no hope against Lazio in Thursday’s Conference League clash.
“If we play like this, we will definitely lose to Lazio
The coach of the Romanian champions expressed his anger after the performance of his charges in the defeat to the University of Craiova, also announcing certain stages of arbitration.
“We started well, we also scored a goal in the penalty phase, after which the Kraiova team recovered. In the second half I play confused, then it was a gift from us, but we can’t change anything. Then a goal was scored, the wall was broken. Those from Craiova who were on the bench performed well. We will suffer the second defeat in a row, but we have been through it before.
My players didn’t live up to expectations either, so maybe I’m partly to blame. But they should give more.
What worries me is that we concede goals, not that we don’t score. You cannot win the title if you lose 7 matches. It’s hard to complain if we lose. The defense is not what it used to be, you see. In other years, we did not lose so much and did not score so many goals.
We still have Europe and the Romanian Cup, so it is clear that we need to analyze.
If we play like we did today, we will definitely lose to Lazio. We have to be better and more aggressive in Rome. I don’t know if I’ll make any changes, I don’t want to talk hot, but I’ll have to analyze very carefully.” Dan Petrescu said after the game, for Digisport.
CFR Cluj will play Lazio on Thursday away to Olimpico in the first match of the 16th round of the Conference League, and a week later they will host the Italians.
Lazio Roma are also not in the best form, without a win in three matches in Serie A. The Italians lost their last match against Atalanta 2-0 after two consecutive draws.
