Tsitsipas: The goal is to win the Davis Cup in 3-4 years

Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas shared his dream of a future victory in the Davis Cup.

On the eve of the matches with Ecuador in the closed Nikos Galis at the OAKA, for promotion to the first division, Stefanos Tsitsipas said at a press conference that he “craves more tennis.”

“I want to say right away that being here is a great honor for us. Our goal – as extreme and absurd as it sounds – is to win the Davis Cup in 3-4 years,” said the 24-year-old, who, after finishing second at the Australian Open, is now third in the world rankings.

“I believe in this, I have dreamed about this since childhood and I am glad that the event has returned to its old system. Winning the Davis Cup with my teammates is one of the three goals I want to achieve in my tennis career. I would say I yearn for more tennis. It was a very difficult tournament in Australia, but now I’m still focused on the Davis Cup. I want to give my 100% and have as much rest as possible next week and prepare for the upcoming Tour. This is something new for me and I really want to give the team my best.”

Hadzinikolaou: “It’s dangerous that we don’t know the singles players very well”

National team coach Dimitris Hatzinikolaou stressed: “We are expecting a lot of people tomorrow. As a team, we will do our best and fight for this coveted qualification. I’m sure this whole world will affect our own team, push them to play better, but it will also affect the Ecuador team. Perhaps in such conditions they play more tight. I don’t think that this can negatively affect Stefanos because of his performances abroad. I think Michalis also has experience of participating in major events. He is comfortable in front of the public and I believe that he will not have problems.”

“The first danger is that we will have to face two singles players whom we do not know well enough, because we do not have a complete picture of them. If they had a better position in the rankings, then we could recognize them from the video. Now what we know is our own information as well as their training. So it’s definitely a trap that won’t help us. They have very good players in doubles, they have a good ranking position and we know what to expect from two good players.”

Skorilas: “My dream is to compete with so many people”

Speaking about the stadium for the games, the changes made to the indoor stadium in OAKA, Alexandros Skorilas said: “The truth is that this is the first time we see such a large indoor stadium in Greece and in fact with so many people. We had a huge appetite when we saw the stadium to train there, not to mention play a match there. When we learned that the games would be held in OAKA, I think we all had a dream to compete with so many people supporting us and shouting for Greece. So it just gives us the desire to get on the field and give it 100%.”

Pervolarakis did not train, his possible replacement is Thanos

Michalis Pervolarakis, who has an injury to his right hand, did not have time to train at the last training session of our national team, he did not participate in training and, as everything shows, three-time Greek champion Aristotle Thanos will be a possible replacement.
