Assault charges against Nick Kyrgios were dismissed in a Canberra court on Friday, despite the Wimbledon finalist previously pleading guilty, Reusters reports.
The court heard that Kyrgios pushed Chiara Passari (his ex-girlfriend) to the ground after she stopped him from leaving during an argument between them in January 2021.
Judge Beth Campbell dismissed the case due to the minor nature of the incident and the fact that Kyrgios had a low risk of re-offending, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.
When asked about his plans for next term, Nick said he just wants to recover from his injury and get back on the field.
The Wimbledon finalist, who underwent knee surgery after withdrawing from the Australian Open last month, took to social media to say he was “grateful” for the decision.
“I respect today’s decision and am grateful to the court for dismissing the charges without conviction. I wasn’t in a good place when it happened, and I reacted to a difficult situation in a way that I deeply regret.” – Nick Kyrgios.
At the beginning of 2022, Nick Kyrgios revealed that he had suffered from depression for a long time and had “suicidal thoughts”, in an extended message posted on social media, accompanied by a photo of him in 2019 during the Australian Open.Open.
