Astra Giurgiu has been one of the most important Super League teams of the last decade. The former Romanian champion fell and was expelled by the FRF due to financial problems.
Astra Giurgiu, left the FRF
The Romanian Football Federation expelled the club “Astra Giurgiu” after the meeting of the executive committee, which took place on Friday, writes Digisport.
In the summer of 2021, Astra Giurgiu was relegated to the second league after a season in which most of the important football players left. It was followed by bankruptcy with debts of more than 20 million euros and a drastic relegation, which led to another relegation to the third division.
Unable to legitimize players, after FIFA sanctions for non-payment of debts, the club from Giurgi filed for withdrawal from the 3rd league.
Astra Giurgiu has won the Super League title (2016), the Romanian Cup (2014) and two Super Cups (2014 and 2016).
In Europe, the former champions twice eliminated West Ham United 4-3 on aggregate in 2015 and 2-1 in 2016, and in 2017 managed to reach the last 16 of the UEFA Europa League.
