Tommy Paul reached the semi-finals of the 2023 Australian Open, the American, ranked 35th in the world, defeated compatriot Ben Shelton (89 ATP) in four sets.

The 25-year-old Paul defeated his less experienced opponent after three hours and seven minutes of play, 6-5(5), 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.

Although Ben had 24 aces, Tommy played a much more accurate game and committed only 26 unforced errors, while his opponent finished with 50.

  • For one place in the Grand Final of Antipozi Grand Slam, Tommy Paul will fight with the winner of the match between Russian Andriy Rublev (5th favorite) and Serbian Novak Djokovic (4th).
  • Tommy also beat Jan-Lennard Straff (167 ATP), Alejandro Davidovich Fokin (32 ATP), Jenson Brooksby (39 ATP) and Roberto Bautista Agut (25 ATP) in Melbourne.
  • Thanks to his performances at the Australian Open, Tommy Paul rose to the 19th position in the ATP Live ranking (a career high).
  • The 20-year-old Shelton, who had not played in a tournament outside the United States before this season, would jump 46 spots to No. 43.
