Korda started the first set decisively and led with a score of 4-1, but the sportsman from Russia fought back after losing three sets and barely conceded the tiebreak: 9-7.
The second set was much easier and the ATP No. 31 won it outright, 6-3. The third set also ended in a tie-break, 7-4.
The game at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne lasted two hours and 59 minutes.
Having passed the 1/8 finals of the Australian Open, Sebastian Korda will meet with the 10th favorite of the tournament, Hubert Gurkacz from Poland.
Australian Open 2023 will be held from January 16 to 29. The reigning champions are Ashley Barty (retired) and Rafael Nadal (retired).
