Memphis Depay is on the verge of becoming a new Atletico Madrid player after tense negotiations to leave Barcelona. The striker did not show up for the team’s training session on Wednesday.
Memphis Depay will sign a contract with Atletico Madrid
Although coach Xavi wanted to make sure that the footballer did not leave until a replacement arrived, the pressure exerted by Atletico after the agreement with Depay finally paid off, according to Marca.
Diego Simeone’s side will therefore pay €3m for the Netherlands international, who is still under contract with Barcelona until next summer, significantly less than the €7m they initially asked for.
Depay is expected to fill the void left by the departure of Joao Felix to Chelsea and will sign a contract that runs until the summer of 2025.
After Luis Suarez and Griezmann, the Dutchman became the third player to leave Barcelona for Atletico in recent seasons.
