David Popovich wants to be faster and stay as humble in the years to come

David Popovici took part in the World Aquatics podcast, which was broadcast on YouTube, and the Romanian swimmer revealed what he intends to do in the next 5 years and whether he is satisfied with what he has achieved so far.

“I am very grateful to have become what I wanted to be and I feel the potential to become even greater.

I want to be a person who swims even faster. I want to remain humble as I am now. I want to stay on the ground. I want to mature.

When I’m in the pool, it’s a different version of me. I press a button and I become a different person.

I’m just a boy who swims fast. I’ve said it before, many have called me an “alien” or “out of this world” but I’m just a simple guy with an obsession that I pursue relentlessly.

I think everyone should have an obsession that can be turned into a goal.

I don’t think I’ve lost much because I chose this life. That’s how I wanted it to be. If I could turn back time, I wouldn’t change a thing.

A friend from Brazil asked me how I feel about how far I have come. I thought I could do what I wanted to do for so many years and that everyone has a purpose.” – said David Popovichi.

• In 2022, David Popovici won gold in the 100m and 200m freestyle at both the European Senior Championships and the World Senior Championships in the Olympic pool.

• David Popovich won 14 medals at the five major events he competed in in 2022. 11 of them are gold.

David Popovici won two gold medals at the European Swimming Championships in Rome, our athlete was unstoppable in the 100m freestyle and also in the 200m freestyle.

We will remind you that in June 2022, David Popovich made a double at the World Swimming Championships in Budapest, having managed to prove himself at distances of 100 and 200 meters in freestyle.

During the entire World Swimming Championships, only one athlete managed to win the 100-meter and 200-meter freestyle events from the same edition.

It happened 49 years ago, and the person celebrating this feat is called Jim Montgomery (USA – he is now 67 years old). That year, the competition was hosted by Belgrade.
