Organizers of the WTA Adelaide 2 tournament were forced to announce the cancellation of two semi-finals after Veronika Kudermetova and Paula Badosa suffered health problems.
Veronika Kudermetova and Paula Badosa bow out ahead of WTA Adelaide 2 semi-finals
The organizers were faced with the fact after Veronika Kudermetova (sixth seed) and Paula Badosa (9th seed) were forced to declare defeat before their semi-final matches.
As reported by the WTA, Paula Badosa suffered an injury to her right thigh, and the Iberian did not want to force herself before the start of the Australian Open.
Under these conditions, Daria Kasatkina (the 5th favorite) entered the final without a game.
It happened again in the second semi-final. Veronika Kudermetova cited problems with her hip, and the Russian withdrew before the match against Belinda Bencic (eighth favorite and reigning Olympic champion).
Thus, Daria Kasatkina (5) and Belinda Bencic (8) will meet in the grand final on Saturday.
We will remind you that the order of favorites was turned upside down after the removal of the first three favorites: Iga Svyatek, Ons Zhaber and Jessica Pegula.
WTA Adelaide 2 takes place from January 9 to 14 on hard, is part of the WTA 500 category, has a total prize pool of $780,637 and is crowned by Ashley Barty (now retired).
